Bee Floral Exhibit Wins Gold Award Reporter asks: “What competition is the council competing in and when will the results be announced?” Simon Long answers: “Ball Colegrave flower bed competition it’s only done here at Tatton Park, it’s not done at any other flower shows and that’s worth taking part in.” Reporter asks: “What’s our exhibit all about?” Simon Long answers: “Well this year we decided to do a topical story rather than a link with the borough, really because it’s subsequently different and we’d heard about the decline in bees and the effect that could have on the horticultural in particular because of pollination problem and we thought that would be a good story to do.” Reporter asks: “What flowers were used and how has the exhibit developed?” Simon Long answers: “We’ve got marigolds under the bee, carpet bedding for the bee's body, lobelia in the big flower petals, mixed begonias underneath it with more marigolds and then we have a mixture of herbaceous plants to create a meadow effect around the hive so we’ve got foxgloves, lavenders and all kinds of things in it.” Reporter asks: “Did you use any other interesting features in this exhibit?” Simon Long answers: “Well we’ve put the beehive in just to suggest the environmental side and we’ve got our two ladies over there who are going to help promote the bed in their bee-keeping outfits and we’ve also done a promotional leaflet which we will be handing out explaining to people what they can do to help bees as well.” Reporter asks: “What’s been the reaction to the exhibit so far from people that have seen it?” Simon Long answers: “So far it’s been pretty good, people seem to like it, it’s a bit different to everybody else’s and so far it seems to be getting quite a good response.” Reporter asks: “How does our exhibit compare to other councils that are here today?” Simon Long answers: “I’m a bit biased really I think it looks quite good as far as I can see I’ve gone up and down and looked at everyone else’s I think we're perhaps not the best, but not the worst either.”
