Flag Marks Armed Forces Day Reporter asks: “So Andrew can you tell me a bit about Armed Forces Day and what’s it all about?” Sergeant answers: “It’s started to recognise the services of all military personnel that have gone overseas and those that haven’t come back, it’s fairly new policy but hopefully they’ll keep it going.” Reporter asks: “Do you think it’s a good idea and if so why?” Sergeant answers: “It is a good idea because it helps to highlight the things the military are doing all over the world. The bravery and sacrifices they have to make.” The Mayor’s speech: “Armed Forces Day builds upon the success of previous veterans’ days and I know similar gatherings to this one are at this moment being held across our country.” “The title of Armed Forces Day has been chosen to reflect the wider armed forces family - serving personnel both past and present and also to represent the veterans of cadet forces. And this occasion provides us with an opportunity to raise public awareness of this very vital role that our armed forces past and present make and have made through the years to our security and well-being. I very much consider it a privilege to be here this morning and to raise this specially commissioned flag on behalf of this loyal and ancient borough in support of our service personnel.” Reporter asks: “Do you think Armed Forces Day is a good idea and if so why?” Resident answers: “Yes it is because every day we get on with our normal lives and then all you see is bits in the paper that this is going on and people are dying for this, that and the other and we need to spend more time thinking about all those people over there and the families here going through the suffering for us basically.”
