Leadership Join Staff on the Front Line

Reporter said: “Borough Council Cabinet members went back to the shop floor this
week as part of walk the job scheme. Council Leader Simon Tagg spent Tuesday
morning lending a hand at the customer contact centre in the Guildhall, Newcastle.
Mary Maxfield, Cabinet member for cultural and active communities got her hair wet
rather than her hands dirty as she helped swimming classes at Kidsgrove Sports
Centre, while Phil Maskery, Cabinet member for safer and stronger communities, kept
the borough’s motorists honest by spending the morning with the civil enforcement
officers. Council Chief Executive Mark Barrow explained the benefits of the
initiative.”

Chief Executive Mark Barrow said: “Walk the job is a chance for Cabinet members
and the management team to get close to people on the front line in services across the
council the idea is we just build some understanding, get a real appreciation of what it
is that people across the council are doing as part of their daily jobs and actually it's
really interesting and really valuable.”
