Playground Swings into Action Councillor Marion Reddish said: “My first big thank you is to you children for making this dream become a reality you are the people not the adults who best know what we wanted so I'm really glad you had your say and consulted and even more that you took the trouble to come and join me today to celebrate. There is also another group of people that I need to say thank you to, because these play facilities don't come free I'd love to think it did but they don't, so we're very much indebted to Lafarge who gave us £60,000 as a result of a landfill site across the road and also to the housing development across the road who also gave us some money and last but not least to these good officers who have helped me and helped you to provide these facilities. All the children in this area are very welcome so tell your friends to come and join you it's for everybody not just for a few and I'm very pleased to see we've got natural play facilities as well as the contemporary and exciting ones so children please please come and spend your evenings, but be safe and have fun they're very much for you so look after them and tell your friends to look after them. So I'm very pleased at this moment to officially declare these play facilities open. ” Reporter asks: “Have you had fun this morning? Young person answers: “Yes.” Reporter asks: “Is it better than being at school?” Young person answers: “Yes.” Reporter asks: “What's your favourite piece of equipment?” Young person answers: “The massive swinging baskets.” Reporter asks: “Why is that?” Young person answers: “Because it's different and it's really fun and you can go on with loads of other friends.”
