Borough's Big Shopping Campaign Goes Global Town Crier: Oh Yeh Citizens of Newcastle we are asking you today to become Newcastle loyalist Reporter: Hi Trudi there is a lot of activity around the market place today and I can see you are dressed in the shop spot so can you tell me a bit about the scheme? Trudi Barnard answers: I certainly can I am wearing my red spot with pride because I am a Newcastle loyalist. And what we want to do is to encourage more people to become Newcastle loyalist and use the wonderful range of shops and market stalls that we have got here so we are launching the shop local campaign to encourage people to make more use of the shops that are on offer here because we have got some real gems. Reporter Asks: So people want to shop local so they are going to come into Newcastle and shop what benefits are they going to get from going into these shops? Trudi Barnard answers: Well every time they go into a shop that got one of these you can see all the red stickers I am wearing one of these red spots in the windows or they go to a market stall that’s displaying one when they buy something they can pick up a little sticker use those to fill up a little card and they can send that off and go into a £50 prize draw every month and they entry as many times as they like so when they have filled up one card they can come back a fill up another one every time they buy something pick up a red spot and have the chance to win £50 so it’s all good stuff. Reporter Asks: Now it seems very busy today so what’s the response been like from the public? Trudi answers: It’s been really really positive and also from the traders also they have been coming back and saying we have run out of stickers and certainly lots of people have been saying well I love shopping in Newcastle anyway so I think we are just helping people to remember that’s its really a nice place because today it looks particularly beautiful.
