Staying Safe at Christmas Barman says: “How’s it going mate you alright?” Customer answers: “Alright mate, can I have a coke please?” Barman says: “Basically as a customer you’ll be able to walk into any bar over Christmas, if you’re with a group of people state your designated driver you’ll be given a wristband and basically you can claim soft drinks with that wristband in this bar and any other bar in the town for the rest of the evening.” Reporter asks: “And when does this initiative start?” Barman answers: “It starts this Friday, in time for when everybody finishes for Christmas.” Reporter asks: “And then how long will it continue for?” Barman answers: “Until well after the New Year.” Reporter asks: “Trevor I understand there is a new pass ID card scheme starting in Newcastle town centre, can you tell us something about it?” Trevor Smith answers: “Yes certainly the pass card is a citizen card, it’s used by young people to gain entry into pubs and bars in Newcastle town centre.” “The idea of the pass card is to replace the usual forms of identification such as driving licence and passport that could easily be lost on the night out.” “So it’s basically one ID card to basically get you into any premises in Newcastle town centre.”
