Vehicle Crime

With the festive season now here, we’re urging motorists to heed simple advice to ensure they don’t become a victim of opportunist thieves.

With the busy lives people lead especially at this time of year, its very easy to forget crime prevention, which is when vehicle owners could fall prey to the very small minority of individuals that look for opportunities such as unattended valuables left on display in vehicles.

Being a victim of this type of criminality could spoil a festive celebration, shopping trip or time with loved ones and this advice aims to help local people keep their property safe and secure.

Many incidents could be prevented if vehicle owners just take a few minutes to secure their vehicle and remove property from view.

Remember:-

  • Always lock your vehicle, closing all windows, doors and the sun roof.
  • Park in well-lit areas and garage your vehicle overnight, where possible.
  • Remove all valuables, including mobile phones, Sat. Nav. systems and cradles, lap tops, bags, coins and tools. Always clean-off any tell-tale ‘Sat. Nav’ sticker marks visible on windscreens.
  • Never leave a vehicle unattended with the keys in it, even if just using the ATM, defrosting the windscreen or buying a newspaper.
  • Keep car keys out of sight at home away from windows, doors and letterboxes.

If you see anything suspicious contact Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455. In an emergency dial 999.

Working together with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
