Councillor Mrs Ann Heames was appointed Mayor of the Loyal and Ancient Borough on 19 May 2010.
When writing to the Mayor letters should be addressed to The Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Ann Heames. All letters should start “Dear Mr Mayor” or if the Mayor is a lady “Dear Madam Mayor”.
When greeting the Mayor it is correct to say “Good morning Madam Mayor”
When introducing the Mayor it is correct to say “We are pleased to welcome The Worshipful the Mayor of Newcastle–under-Lyme, Councillor Mrs Ann Heames..
At events held within the Borough the Mayor takes precedence unless Her Majesty the Queen or another Member of the Royal Family is present. If present the Mayor will also give precedence to the Lord-Lieutenant for Staffordshire who will be attending in his official capacity to represent The Queen.
It is customary for the Mayor to be seated on the immediate right of the Chairman or host at functions held within the Borough.
The Deputy Mayor for 2010/11 is Councillor Trevor Hambleton.
When representing the Mayor at official engagements the Deputy Mayor should be afforded the same precedence as the Mayor would have been given.
Details of the Mayor’s engagements are forwarded to the local media on a weekly basis. Organisers of events are advised to contact the press themselves if they wish a photographer to be present.
On all occasions the Mayor will be chauffeur driven to engagements. Arrangements should always be made for the Civic Car to be parked in a safe and secure area for the duration of the Mayor’s visit.
The Mayor’s Secretary, Peter Whalan, will be pleased to answer any questions which you may have about inviting the Mayor to a function or to provide information about any other aspect of the Mayoralty.
