Payment/Submission of Searches


The National land Information Service is a government initiative aimed at delivering services electronically, with the ultimate aim of speeding up the conveyance process by using electronic transactions.

The service connects law firms, conveyancers and data providers, such as the Land registry and the Local Authority Land Charges Register. Nlis, has been designed to provide one – stop access to property related information, and is helping to transform the whole process of property transfer, and the beginning of e-conveyancing.

Newcastle Borough Council are currently connected to Nlis level 2, which allows us to receive applications and associated fees electronically, and additionally, return the search results electronically through the system, providing a full paperless search.

Alternatively, we are able to set up accounts where participating companies can submit search requests via email and be invoiced once a month for the appropriate fees. Or, we will accept emailed search requests and take payment over the phone via debtit / credit card.

All results are returned via email, usually within 5 working days.

For search requests which have been posted, please ensure all the correct forms are included, together with a suitable location plan with the area to be searched edged in red, the correct fee, and that the cheque is made payable to Newcastle Borough Council and sent to the following address:-

Cancellation of searches

Search requests can be cancelled at any time, however, in order to obtain a refund of the fee, they must be cancelled before 12.oclock on the day of receipt.

  • Complete at least 80% of standard search requests within 5 working days
