Parking Improvements Continue

The next phase of improvements will begin at a town centre car park this weekend.

Contractors will start a concrete repair programme on level four of the Midway on Saturday, 31 July.

Repairs will be carried out on the car park’s entrance level and a number of ramps every Saturday and Sunday for up to four weeks.

It means that the facility will be closed from 7pm on Saturdays to 6.30am on Mondays, until 23 August at the latest.

Graham Williams, Engineering Manager, said: “The borough council apologises for any inconvenience caused and asks visitors for their patience during this short period.

“There are a number of other council car parks near to the town centre and motorists can take advantage of free parking after 9pm on Saturdays and all day on Sundays.

“The Midway will still be open as normal throughout the week and most of Saturday.”

The improvements are part of a £1.5 million scheme of vital repair works to extend the life of the Midway by 25 years.

Contractors Concrete Repairs Ltd. will also apply waterproof coatings to all surfaces and repair the drainage system.

Graham added: “A detailed survey by independent experts revealed that if this work didn’t go ahead, the car park would have to close permanently which would be damaging to Newcastle’s economy.”
