CONTRACTORS are putting the finishing touches to the borough council’s new Jubilee2 centre with the first customers due to begin using it in the next few days.
The sparkling leisure facility in Brunswick Street, Newcastle, is to be handed over to the council by contractors Morgan Sindall on 9 December.
Existing members will be able to start using the building and its superb amenities from 12 December. On 2 January new members will be welcomed into Jubilee2 and then on 7 January the council is throwing open the doors to the centre and inviting residents to be part of a “Come And Try” launch event.
Instead of a traditional formal ribbon cutting, the council has opted for an event where local people can go along and see for themselves what the fantastic building has to offer for fitness, health and wellbeing. And while they are inside they will be able to try some of the numerous facilities.
On 7 January, residents will be joined by triple Olympic swimming medallist Nick Gillingham and former Olympic athlete David Moorcroft.
Cllr. James Bannister, Cabinet member for culture and active communities, said: “Getting the keys to the building on schedule and on budget is great news. This is one of the biggest building projects which the council has been involved in and the result is something for us all to be extremely proud of.”
