Consultation on the revocation of Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) Number 3 - Maybank, Wolstanton, Porthill
An Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) was declared in the Maybank, Wolstanton, and Porthill Areas on 15 January 2015 due to exceedances of the air quality objective for annual mean nitrogen dioxide (NO2). This AQMA was declared to comply with the requirements placed upon us by virtue of part IV of the Environment Act 1995. This AQMA can be found on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) website.
Air quality in this location was heavily influenced by traffic from Etruria Valley Link Road and the A53 and road traffic emissions were the major contributor to NO2 emissions in this location. The air quality action plan developed for this AQMA assessed the impact of emissions from road traffic and identified improvements that could be applied to bring about compliance with the air quality objective.
The NO2 concentrations at this location fell dramatically in 2016 and have been greater than 20% below the UK NO2 annual mean objective for the past four full calendar years and continue to exhibit a downward trajectory at all monitoring sites.
As the air quality objective has been complied with for over 3 consecutive years, in accordance with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) guidance it is now recommended that this AQMA is revoked.
Details of the air quality monitoring carried out within the AQMA are available within the annual status reports published upon our website.
