Our dog control orders help to make sure that we can all enjoy clean and safe public places by balancing the needs of dog owners with those of other residents.
In November 2020 we renewed the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which now will be in place until November 2023. This renewal followed public consultation where residents supported the controls.
Where the rules are broken an offence is committed. Offenders may be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice.
The orders do not apply to:
- registered blind people and their guide dogs
- dogs registered with Dogs for the Disabled
- Dogs registered with Support Dogs
- Dogs registered with Canine Partners for Independence
- on-duty police dogs
- search and rescue dogs.
