Swimming Lessons

Please Note

Due to covid-19 (‘coronavirus’) Jubilee2 is closed until further notice.

The teaching pool is the perfect environment to learn to swim, for both children and adults. Being able to swim is a life skill that can help to save lives, but it also gives you the confidence to enjoy the water and take part in lots of other water-based activities.

The Learn to Swim programme is delivered by fully qualified Swim England teachers (the awarding body for swimming). Children can start their love of swimming early with the use of games and fun techniques, taking them from their first splash to fully competent, confident and safe swimmers.

Pre-school swimming

Suitable for children from two years old, the aim of pre-school swimming lessons is to build your child’s confidence in water. These sessions are full of games and fun and are a great stepping stone to the swimming lesson programme.

Children’s swimming lessons

The seven stages of our swimming lesson programme will teach your child a wide range of skills to help them to become a confident and competent swimmer.

Throughout the course your child will be continually assessed and will receive swim England Awards for completing certain skills and demonstrating ability.

Junior swimming lesson (per 30 minutes) – Lyme card  £5.60

For more information about each of the stages, please see below:

Stage 1

Through fun games and activities, your child will gain confidence and a love of the water. Every child will learn the foundations of swimming, without it feeling like a lesson! By the end of stage one your little swimmer will be water confident, be able to jump in, and propel themselves in a variety of directions.

Stage 2

During this stage our teachers use an exciting range of equipment to make sure that your child’s lesson is interactive, fun and enjoyable. By the end of this stage, swimmers will be able to swim five metres unaided on their front and back.

Stage 3

By now your child will look confident and show their love of being in the water. The building blocks to swimming all four competitive strokes begin during stage three. By the end, swimmers will be able to swim 10 metres confidently, demonstrate an understanding of all four strokes and perform a range of skills such as push and glides, sculling, treading water and picking objects up from the pool floor.

Stage 4

Your child can now perform breaststroke, backstroke and front crawl over at least 10 metres. They can perform 10metres of basic butterfly leg kick and complete a length of sculling. Your swimmer has already started to learn the skills needed to dive, and during this stage we will help them to progress these skills. Swimmers completing this stage will move onto swimming lengths.

Stage 5

Now that your child is swimming lengths we will be honing in on the basic strokes already learnt, to turn them into efficient strokes. Water safety is taught throughout the programme, but in stage five we focus on open water safety skills. Swimmers will have lots of fun with forward and backward rolls, which form the beginnings of learning starts and turns. On completion, swimmers will effortlessly swim 25 metres in all three competitive strokes and 25 metres butterfly leg kick with undulation.

Stage 6

In this final stage they start to have fun with water-based activities such as mini polo, synchronised swimming and obstacle courses. Your child will be taught to perform all their strokes quickly, efficiently and effectively, following the Swim England assessment criteria. You will see the difference in your child during this stage as their confidence increases and their water fitness really starts to improve.
