Garden Waste Collections Return

A popular kerbside recycling service is returning after a short winter break.

Garden waste collections are starting up again on “green week” from Tuesday, 2 February following a six-week pause when garden growth is very slow.

Residents are being asked to present their brown-lidded containers with general rubbish by 7am.

Last year households in the borough recycled more than 10,000 tonnes of leaves, twigs, cut flowers, plants, weeds, prunings and hedge/grass cuttings. They were composted at an open windrow facility in Acton, Newcastle, and turned into a nutrient rich soil improver for local farms and other places including Trentham Gardens.

All households with a garden are entitled to one free bin. Those with larger gardens can purchase extra ones for £36 per year.
