TALENTED youngsters from Newcastle are preparing to show off their moves to audiences of thousands at Europe’s biggest dance event.
They are the stars of ‘Balletmania’, an original choreography devised by former professional dancer Daniel Jones as part of MOVE IT, a three-day celebration of dance and performing arts at ExCel London in March.
The 30 dancers won their places after auditioning earlier in January for Daniel at Jubilee2, where several of them are members.
“It was tremendous to see the excitement and buzz that took place at the audition,” said choreographer and ex-English National Ballet professional Daniel.
“Forty dancers and their families turned up, some travelling from as far afield as Manchester and Shrewsbury, and the standard of everyone taking part was extremely high.”
Following selection of his dancers at the audition, Daniel is now holding a series of gruelling rehearsal sessions at Jubilee2 leading up to MOVE IT, to prepare the young people for their showcase ‘Balletmania’ performances.
They will dance on the main stage at ExCel at peak times during the event – which runs from 10-12 March) for audiences of up to 10,000 people.
“MOVE IT really is the premier event of its kind in Europe, and everybody who is anyone in the world of dance – from star dancers like Darcey Bussell to choreographers and producers – will be there,” continued Daniel.
“I was brought up in the Cross Heath area of Newcastle, and went on to travel the world as a professional dancer, and even danced for the Queen at Buckingham Palace. So, for me to be able to help people from my home town to go and do amazing things like this is wonderful…”
