Construction and demolition

Construction and demolition works can be noisy and often take place in areas which are usually quiet. Although the work may not last long, things like noise and dust can cause problems for people who live and work near the site, and lead to us receiving complaints.

Many possible issues can be minimised by developing a good communication strategy with residents, and by listening to and acting on their reasonable concerns.

Where construction times are not controlled by a planning condition, we encourage you to keep noisy building work to these times:

• Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

• Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

• Sundays and public holidays: no work

We encourage developers to carry out construction work in line with good practice, such as the considerate constructors scheme.
