Nuisance issues

What we can do

We are required by law to look into complaints about nuisances caused by:

  • noise (such as barking dogs, amplified music/televisions or intermittent alarms)

  • smoke and dust (such as garden bonfires)

  • artificial light (typically security lights)

  • odour (only from industrial or trade premises)

  • insects (only from industrial or trade premises)

You may find that if you approach the person or business responsible and explain the situation to them, they will take steps to improve things, as they may not realise that they are causing you a problem.

However, if this informal approach does not work, or you feel uncomfortable speaking to them directly, you can make a complaint to us.
