Grass cutting and grounds maintenance

On Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council owned land

Please note: weather and other factors may affect the frequency of these operations.

Open spaces

Begins in late March through to October.

Up to 8 times per year on an area-to-area basis.

Formal parks

We cut bowling greens, in season, up to 3 times per week.

Fine turf up to 10 times per year.

Meadow areas

Some areas have a complete cut once a year.

Others will have pathways cut through them. This is to aid walkers and to encourage biodiversity and sustainability.

Winter and summer bedding

Newcastle-under-Lyme is a floral borough. Our teams work hard to design and maintain these so you and visitors can enjoy them throughout the year.

Planting takes place in spring and autumn.

Shrubs/herbaceous beds

We maintain these on a winter and summer programme.

Hedge cutting on borough council owned land

This operation does not start until the end of July. This is to protect nesting birds.

If hedgerows are causing a hazard to pedestrians or road users we will trim them before this.
