About the environment
What is the environmental stewardship?
Environmental Stewardship allows our Borough to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
This means we must ensure that the actions we make today are environmentally, socially and economically sound for the current generation and for future generations and that they can live comfortable lives.
One way of looking at Environmental Stewardship is through the 3 pillars which are:
- the environment
- society
- the economy
These categories are what we should be focused on when we try and develop something in an environmental way.
Underneath the 3 pillars sit 17 goals that were developed by the United Nations. They encompass everything from biodiversity, social justice and development. The goals can be seen below and set out the things we need to achieve as a planet to truly achieve environmental stewardship. These were adopted by all United Nations members in 2015 and have a global goal to achieve all 17 initiatives by 2030.
