New statue of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II commissioned

Maquette of HM Queen Elizabeth II
Maquette of HM Queen Elizabeth II

We are commissioning a new statue of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as part of our 850th anniversary celebrations.

The one-and-a-quarter times life size statue will be cast in bronze and placed in Queens Gardens.

Uniquely, the inspiration for the design draws from how her Majesty looked and what she was wearing on the 25 May 1973, when she visited Newcastle-under-Lyme to celebrate the Borough’s 800th anniversary.

About the sculptor

The sculptor is Staffordshire artist Andy Edwards, who is known internationally for his sculptures, including The Beatles in Liverpool, Sir Stanley Matthews in Stoke-on-Trent, Sir Alex Ferguson in Aberdeen and ‘All Together Now’ – an installation of opposing soldiers shaking hands over a football to symbolise one of the most famous events of the First World War.

Purchase a scale model sculpture

The historic project will be funded by the sale, at £8,500 apiece, of 11 individually numbered maquettes - scale models of the intended monument. Each will be 16 inches high and cast in the same bronze as the final statue, which will stand outside the civic centre in the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

If you are interested in buying one these individually numbered maquettes, please complete our online form to submit your interest.
