The home check process enables wardens to meet prospective dog owners in their own homes and to offer detailed advice to:-
- Safeguard the welfare of the rehomed animal
- Provide practical advice to minimize potential nuisance complaints (for example - garden fouling/barking)
- Ensure owners are aware of their responsibilities as responsible dog owners, including the penalties associated with offences (for example - fouling and straying)
- Potential costs of owning a dog – feed costs, medical fees, insurances and so on.
Wardens are acting as agents for the Kennelling Provider and report their opinions back to that agency. It is the decision of the Kennelling Provider, not the Council, whether a dog should be re-homed with a prospective new owner.
