Not all work will require planning permission. You can check the interactive guide on the Planning Portal to see what does and doesn't need planning permission. If your property is a listed building you must also apply for listed building consent. Planning permission may also be needed if your property lies within a conservation area.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, as the local planning authority, is required to maintain a register of planning applications that are received in a valid form. The submission of a valid application for planning permission requires a completed application form, compliance with national and local information requirements and the correct application fee.
Once a planning application has been registered as valid the local planning authority should make a decision within the statutory time limit unless a longer period is agreed. The decision must be taken in accordance with the development plan unless there are material considerations that indicate otherwise.
