Member allowances

Councillors are unpaid but they are entitled to allowances and expenses. Some councillors receive special responsibility payments for additional duties such as:

  • being a cabinet member
  • chairing a committee
  • being a leader of a political group

The level of allowances are reviewed on a regular basis by a panel made up of independent people.
