About the job

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, organised and effective professional to join Newcastle Borough Councils Sustainable Environment Service Team to deliver high-quality information about new services and waste reduction across the Staffordshire-wide Waste Partnership area.

Councils are committed to providing high quality services to residents and communities and we strive to meet the needs of our communities by empowering and enabling our people to deliver on shared goals.

The role is based in the Sustainable Environment Service at Newcastle Borough Council but will deliver work across the Partnership.

The waste industry has become an exciting place full of change, with a range of waste reforms requiring council services to change significantly.

There’s a lot of change and information to communicate to residents, and there are statutory deadlines for change which we must meet, and deliver on successfully, and that’s going to mean a lot of engaging work taking place.

You’ll learn a lot about things like Simpler Recycling, p-EPR, DRS, ETS and a vibrant landscape of positive changes to deliver a Circular Economy.

The focus will initially be around the requirement to provide efficient and effective engagement materials for the introduction of new food waste collection services, but the drive to remove items from the waste stream reaches beyond that.

We’ll provide all the waste sector training you need, but your passion for engaging and informing will be the key feature of the role.

Requirements

  • You’ll have a degree, and ideally demonstrable experience, creating and delivering successful and behaviour-changing campaigns.
  • With data skills to measure success, relationship-building and negotiation skills, you’ll be able to work with the various Council partners and all the demographic groups across the county to deliver successful campaigns.
  • Your positive can-do attitude will be an essential requirement, and an ability to hit the ground running with good ideas and a strong work ethic.
  • Skills and ideas across a range including social media, websites, graphics and branding, leaflets and more will be essential in this role.

Why work for us?

Newcastle-under-Lyme is a borough with big ambitions.  We’ve already started our transformation, however, we still need to find better ways of doing things because we are determined to do the very best we can for our communities.

If our vision is to be the best, then we need the best people working for us. Our people are at the heart of what we do and have the freedom to innovate, grow and develop.  We recruit people who share our vision and values; people who have the drive to deliver our ambitious Council plan.

Our historic Borough is a place of marked contrasts. We are the home of a world class University at Keele, a leading light known internationally for its research and sustainability record, which stands side by side with former mining communities including some which register amongst the most deprived areas in the country. Our Borough is also a mixture of urban centres, affected by some of the same social issues facing our neighbouring city, Stoke-on-Trent, but also outstanding rural landscapes in our less populated villages. Our plans and priorities aim to address the needs of all our communities.

Our People Offer

We reward our people with a competitive range of benefits including; access to the local government pension scheme, minimum 24 days annual leave plus 5 extra days after 5 years' service, flexible working options and family friendly policies, local and national high street discounts, free car parking, wellbeing support including £12.50 per month Jubilee2 membership , green travel scheme including cycle to work and electric car salary sacrifice, free employee 24 hour employee assistance and counselling services, flu vaccination service and health checks plus development and training opportunities.
