Donating objects

What we cannot take

Many kind people offer to donate objects to our museum. We are always very grateful that people offer us items for the collection but sometimes we are unable to take them.

Some of the reasons we may not accept an item are:

  • there is not a strong connection to the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme
  • we already have an example of an item and would not be able to use or care for more than one
  • we couldn’t show or care for an item due to its poor condition

How do I donate something to the museum?

If you have something you think we would like please contact us.

A photograph of an item can be helpful, but is not essential.

We may take time to decide if we can accept objects offered to us. This is because we need to check that the object fits in with our collection and that we can properly care for it. We aim to make a decision within three weeks of an offer.

Please note: the museum cannot provide valuations.
