1849 cholera map project
We hold a map which shows where the victims of the 1849 cholera outbreak lived. You can see this map online on Staffordshire Past Track.
As part of a Heritage Lottery funded project, we worked with local historian Andrew Dobraszczyc to find out more about the 1849 cholera epidemic in Newcastle.
Andrew led a team of volunteers to find out about the 241 people who died. Our volunteers copied some resources onto the computer and presented their findings on a database.
These project documents are available:
- 1849 cholera database
- Cholera death certificates transcripts
- 1840 poor rate book
- Cottrill's police directory 1836
