Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is co-ordinating new and existing service provision in Bradwell and Porthill on Thursday, 8 May in the latest instalment of its Civic Pride campaign.

The ongoing initiative – delivered in partnership with Staffordshire Police, Aspire Housing and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service under a unified #PrideInNUL badge – aims to strengthen the borough’s reputation as a place which is clean, safe and friendly.

Council Leader Simon Tagg said:

Civic Pride is a long-term programme intending to make a positive difference by helping to create a strong sense of belonging to, and pride in, our fantastic borough. Delivering regular services in a more joined-up way – with residents’ involvement – means that we are able to make a much greater impact on the look and feel of local communities for the benefit of people who live there.

Successful Civic Pride events have already taken place in Newcastle town centre, Kidsgrove, Loggerheads, Chesterton, Crackley and Audley. We’re now looking forward to visiting Bradwell and Porthill.”

The borough council, working alongside staff from Aspire Housing, are carrying out litter picks by the Hanbridge Avenue shops, Oldcastle and Dayson flats – between 10am and 2pm – to help keep the areas clean, tidy and welcoming. The council’s Green Team is teaming up with Porthill Pickers, and other volunteers, from 10.30am to carry out vital maintenance and clean-up efforts at Porthill Dingle, a cherished green space.

A community drop-in session is taking place at the Co-op in Hanbridge Avenue where visitors can get information and advice from the council, police and Aspire Housing from 10am to 2pm.

Partners are also conducting walkabouts in the Longshaw Avenue, Bradwell Lane and Denry Crescent areas to engage with residents and assess areas for future improvement.

Police officers are visiting the Sun Academy during the morning to build positive relationships and promote community safety.

Cllr. Gill Heesom, Cabinet member for Community Safety and Well-being, added:

This latest event reflects our shared commitment to making Bradwell and Porthill places where people feel safe, supported and proud to live. Residents are encouraged to stop by, join in and share their voice to help shape the future of their community.”

The next Civic Pride event focuses on Knutton and Cross Heath on 20 May.
