Civic Pride comes to Wolstanton and May Bank

Residents can join in a number of positive activities designed to enhance where they live in the next round of a borough-wide scheme.
Community litter picks and walkabouts feature in Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s latest Civic Pride initiative in Wolstanton and May Bank on Monday, 23 June.
The ongoing campaign – delivered in collaboration with Staffordshire Police, Aspire Housing and other partners under a unified #PrideInNUL badge – combines new and existing service provision and aims to strengthen the borough’s reputation as a place which is clean, safe and friendly.
Litter picks focus on Minton Street, Morris Square and Wedgwood Street and anyone is welcome to join in between 10am and 1pm. The council’s Green Team is working to bring a disused community garden back into use at Watlands View. A drop-in session takes place at Wolstanton Methodist Church, from 10am to 2pm, where visitors can get information and advice about a range of subjects.
Meanwhile, police officers are paying a visit to St. Wulstan’s Catholic Primary School during the morning to talk to pupils about community safety.
Council Leader Simon Tagg said:
We’ve really hit the ground running since Civic Pride launched last October; this will be our eighth event. It’s really rewarding to work together in this way to make a tangible difference to people’s lives. Initial feedback from residents has been really encouraging.
Due to its success, the council has now launched the complementary Civic Pride Investment Fund which enables local organisations across Newcastle-under-Lyme to apply for small grants for positive activities and events which further contribute to the creation of more pleasant environments. I’m looking forward to seeing the first wave of applications.”
Cllr. Gill Heesom, Cabinet member for Community Safety and Wellbeing, added:
Working alongside local organisations, and residents, on a regular basis like this helps to improve the look and feel of places like Wolstanton and May Bank through cleaner, safer and more welcoming neighbourhoods.”
The borough-wide investment fund contains £22,000 for 2025/26. Funding requests will be considered on a quarterly basis by Cabinet, with decisions based on need and impact. Applications can be submitted online where supporting information is also available. The deadline for the first round of funding is Friday, 11 July.
The next Civic Pride event takes place in Westbury Park and Northwood on Tuesday, 8 July.
