Residents, shoppers and visitors of all ages can show their support for the men and women who make up the British Armed Forces community.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is once again working with the borough’s Tri-Services and Veterans Support Centre to mark national Armed Forces Day in Newcastle town centre.

The annual event – on Saturday, 28 June – is an opportunity to pay tribute to the service of currently serving troops as well as reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.

In addition to the general market, there will be a handful of stalls by the Guildhall, staffed by current and former personnel, as well as a small display of light armed forces vehicles. The event will be attended by Mayor Robert Bettley-Smith.

Council Leader Simon Tagg said:

The council is pleased to work with the Tri-Services and Veterans Support Centre once again to mark national Armed Forces Day in Newcastle town centre.

This is an opportunity to remember the sacrifice and service of the entire British Armed Forces community, including local residents, who show extraordinary bravery in keeping us safe.

The vehicle display is a focal attraction; visitors can also find out more about their military importance. I hope people come out to show their support and appreciation.”

A commemorative Armed Forces Day flag will be raised in Queens Gardens from Friday, 27 June until Monday, 30 June.

The Tri-Services and Veterans Support Centre provides support for serving and former military personnel and their families including drop-in services, casework, battlefield tours and access to other support organisations.
