Westbury Park and Northwood are new focus for Civic Pride

A long-term scheme designed to increase residents’ pride in different neighbourhoods across Newcastle-under-Lyme is focusing on a new area this week.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is staging its tenth Civic Pride event – in Westbury Park and Northwood – on Tuesday, 8 July.
The ongoing campaign – delivered in collaboration with Staffordshire Police and other partners under a unified #PrideInNUL badge – combines new and existing service provision and aims to strengthen the borough’s reputation as a place which is clean, safe and friendly.
A drop-in session takes place outside Westbury Park shops, from 10am to 2pm, where residents can get information and advice from the council and Staffordshire Police about a wide range of subjects. They can also get their bicycles security marked. What3words location: axed.tall.friday.
Meanwhile, a litter pick co-ordinated by the council’s Green Team runs from 10.30am to 1pm, with people meeting at the shops. Anyone is welcome to join in.
Council Leader Simon Tagg said:
After launching late last year with a successful week of action in Newcastle town centre, we’re now preparing to launch our tenth Civic Pride event, with more planned for the rest of the year. The initiative has really gathered momentum, with the council recently announcing a new complementary fund enabling local groups to access small grants for their community activities.
Civic Pride aims to create a strong sense of belonging to, and pride in, our fantastic borough. It’s a response to feedback from residents and captures a lot of the work that already goes on by the council, and its partners, and is also a call to arms for people of all ages to get involved.”
A Civic Pride Investment Fund – containing £22,000 for 2025/26 – has now been made available by the council to enable local groups to access small grants for their positive activities. Applications can be submitted online where supporting information is also available. The deadline for the first round of funding is Friday, 11 July.
Cabinet is also reviewing a draft Civic Pride (Empowering Our Communities) Strategy, ahead of consultation, which outlines how residents and other stakeholders can be involved in decision-making and local service delivery.
The next Civic Pride event takes place in Silverdale on 11 August.
