Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s rolling programme of ‘Civic Pride’ events moves to Silverdale on Monday.

Council representatives, as well as members of Staffordshire Police and the housing association Aspire will be at The Parade on 11 August from 10am to 2pm.

A police van will be there for anyone who wants to report anything to police or council, and there will also be crime prevention advice and free security marking for bicycles.

Simon Tagg, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, said:

The Civic Pride initiative is going from strength to strength.

We launched it in response to feedback from residents and we’re moving from one community to another, working with people and organisations, and it draws together people who want to contribute to their neighbourhood.”

Officers from all three organisations will walk the area for problems and also carry out litter picks.

Neighbourhood rangers from the Borough Council and Aspire caretakers will be on the look out to tackle cases of fly-tipping.

And council staff will also accompany volunteers in Silverdale Park to take on any odd jobs that need doing.

A Civic Pride Investment Fund – containing £22,000 for 2025/26 – has now been made available by the council to enable local groups to access small grants for their positive activities. Applications can be submitted online where supporting information is also available.

An announcement about the successful applicants for the first phase of grants will be made soon.

A draft Civic Pride (Empowering Our Communities) Strategy, which outlines how residents and other stakeholders can be involved in decision-making and local service delivery, is currently available for public comment. More about that can be found here.
