Essential roof repairs set to take place at J2 leisure centre
Essential repairs to the roof above the main swimming pool at Jubilee 2 leisure centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme are set to begin in December.
The work is needed due to corrosion of the underside of the roof and can start following approval of the final funding allocation for the scheme.
While work takes place from Monday 8 December, the main swimming pool will need to be temporarily closed to ensure public safety.
The small pool, and the rest of the leisure centre, will remain open for the duration of the scheme, which is due to last until late March.
The maintenance works will ensure the continued provision of high-quality swimming facilities for residents, including children, schools, and local clubs, and the timing of the scheme has been planned to minimise disruption and will be carried out as quickly as possible.
Following the roof repairs, new pool covers will be installed to improve energy efficiency and support the council’s sustainability programme.
At its meeting on Tuesday 4 November, cabinet is set to approve the final £64,792 funding allocation, with total projects costs totalling £362,018.
Craig Skelding, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Heritage, said:
These works are essential to ensure the long-term safety and quality of our swimming facilities at J2.
Unfortunately, we need to temporarily close the main pool for which we apologise, though the project team will make every effort to complete works as soon as possible.
This funding allocation will enable the repairs to begin, and we’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding while work takes place.”
