Essential roof repairs set to begin at J2 leisure centre
Essential repairs to the roof above the main swimming pool at Jubilee2 leisure centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme will begin this Monday, 8 December.
The work is needed due to corrosion of the underside of the roof. While repairs take place, the main swimming pool will need to be temporarily closed to ensure people’s safety.
The small pool will remain open for the duration of the scheme and have extended hours – with adults and school swimming lessons included. People are being advised to check the revised timetable for the small pool for the duration of the repair programme, which is due to be completed in March.
Anyone with full J2 membership with pool access should have received an email detailing any discounts to their membership that may apply.
The maintenance works will ensure the continued provision of high-quality swimming facilities for residents, including children, schools, and local clubs. The scheme been carefully planned to minimise disruption.
Following the roof repairs, new pool covers will be installed to improve energy efficiency and support the council’s sustainability programme.
Cllr. Craig Skelding, Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Heritage, said:
These works are essential to ensure the long-term safety and quality of our swimming facilities at J2. We’re reminding people that unfortunately we will need to temporarily close the main pool from Monday so that repairs can be carried out safely.
Throughout this period the smaller pool and gym remain unaffected, and every effort has been made to minimise disruption to members and clubs. A revised timetable will be in place in the smaller pool with extended hours.
We’d again like to apologise for the disruption this causes, though the project team will make every effort to complete works as soon as possible.”
