Residents can get involved in the latest edition of a long-term initiative designed to boost pride in neighbourhoods across the borough.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is delivering its newest Civic Pride instalment in Knutton and Cross Heath on Tuesday, 12 May in collaboration with Aspire Housing and Staffordshire Police.

The council’s ongoing Civic Pride campaign – created in response to resident feedback and delivered under a unified #PrideInNUL banner – combines new and existing service provision with the aim of involving local communities in strengthening the borough’s reputation as a place which is clean, safe and friendly for everyone.

Residents are invited to join in a community litter pick which starts from the Wammy car park, on Lower Milehouse Lane, from 10am with an initial focus of helping to keep the popular green space clean and welcoming for everyone. Equipment will be provided.

This location is also the venue for a drop-in session, available from 10am to 2pm, where visitors can access advice and information about local services and support.

Jason Griffiths, Mobile Multi-Functional Team Leader at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, said:

Our Civic Pride events are all about bringing people together to make a positive difference in their neighbourhoods. We’re looking forward to working alongside residents and community partners in Knutton and Cross Heath to help improve local spaces, offer support and celebrate community spirit. We’d encourage anyone who can spare some time to come along and get involved.”

Meanwhile, the council’s Green Team is joining volunteers from St. Mary’s Church to carry out spring gardening work within the church grounds, helping to brighten up the area for the local community.

James Fullford, Head of Neighbourhoods at Aspire Housing, added:

We’re really pleased to be working in collaboration with our local partners on the Civic Pride events as part of our commitment to making a positive contribution to our neighbourhoods.

The events have brought everyone together, working in unison to address issues and make our communities feel safer and cleaner for all.

At Aspire Housing we’re making significant investments locally as part of the Knutton Village regeneration, building 75 new homes, with the first ones fully completed in the coming months to support our growing and changing communities.”

More information about the full Civic Pride programme, and how to get involved, is available on the council’s website.

The next Civic Pride event takes place in Silverdale on Tuesday, 19 May.
