Delivery plans for improvements in Kidsgrove are being laid out next week.

Staff from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council will be at Kidsgrove library on Tuesday, June 30.

They will be talking about progress on the new enterprise units at The Meadows and the schedules for forthcoming work at the King Street precinct, Market Street, Heathcote Street and the area around Station Road and The Meadows.

Jonathan Gullis, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Cabinet member for Planning and Town Centres, said:

I am incredibly proud to see the Town Deal continuing to deliver real, visible improvements for our town.

We have already seen major progress, from the reopening of Kidsgrove Sports Centre and the new pump track at Newchapel Rec, to unlocking Chatterley Valley West for new employment opportunities, alongside improvements to the canal and links into the town centre.

This next phase is about building on that success. The new enterprise units at The Meadows, improvements to King Street precinct, Market Street, Heathcote Street and Station Road will all help make Kidsgrove a more attractive place to visit, shop, work and invest in.

This is about pride in our town, backing local businesses, creating jobs and making sure Kidsgrove gets the regeneration it deserves.”

Information is available in the town library all day, with council staff present from 9.30am to 11.30am, and from 5pm to 6.30pm.

Projects on display include:

  • three new enterprise units under construction on Meadows Road car park, which are already attracting interest from prospective tenants, with provision for up to 16 cars to park for up to two hours;
  • improving the pedestrian area and car pull-in spaces at the King Street precinct;
  • a new one-way system for Station Road, The Meadows and Market Street, to address traffic flow in the area;
  • improvements to the Heathcote Street car parks.

Also on display will be information about improvements planned for Kidsgrove, separate to the Town Deal, including refurbishment work on the town library.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council successfully bid for £16.9 million in Government funding for Kidsgrove, plus a further £750,000 soon after.

Projects already delivered or underway include reopening Kidsgrove Sports Centre and creating industrial space for up to 1,700 jobs on unusable industrial wasteland at Chatterley Valley West, as well as improving the canal and link to the town centre.

Plans for upgrading the train station are also being developed and the information boards will be on longer term display there after appearing at the library.

Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways at Staffordshire County Council said:

We’re pleased to be working with Newcastle Borough Council on some exciting improvements for Kidsgrove as part of the Town Deal.

Our highways crews will be carrying out a range of improvements including  new one-way traffic arrangements on Station Road, Meadow Road and Market Street with work due to start in July.  The information event will be a good opportunity for people to find out more about the works and plans for the town.”
