Exciting new pump track planned for Lyme Valley

The exciting new facility could be installed by the end of the year, transforming the existing BMX track at one of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s flagship parks into an accessible and all-weather venue for cyclists, skateboarders, scooter riders and rollerbladers.

The proposal is part of the Reform UK administration’s determination to ensure residents see real improvements in their neighbourhoods, with taxpayers’ money focused on practical projects that strengthen communities, support families and create better opportunities.

Specialist contractors have prepared initial designs for a purpose-built circuit featuring rollers, berms and flowing turns. The track would be suitable for beginners taking their first steps in wheeled sports, as well as more experienced riders seeking a challenging and high-quality facility.

The existing BMX track, which was installed approximately 20 years ago, would be remodelled, extended and resurfaced in tarmac, creating a smooth, durable track capable of being used throughout the year.

The proposed investment reflects the council’s determination to deliver visible improvements in local neighbourhoods, support healthier lifestyles and ensure residents of all ages have access to high-quality recreational facilities.

Cllr. Andrew Fisher, Cabinet member for Residents’ Services and Neighbourhoods, said:

Lyme Valley is one of the jewels in our borough’s crown, and our new administration is determined to make sure it continues to be a place local people can be proud of.

 

This is exactly the kind of practical, positive investment residents want to see; improving an existing community facility, giving people somewhere safe and exciting to spend their time, and encouraging people of all ages to get outdoors and be active.

 

Strong communities are built when councils listen to residents, protect valued local spaces and deliver facilities that bring people together. We want investment to be seen and felt in our parks, streets and neighbourhoods, and this project is another example of that approach in action.”

The Lyme Valley track would build on the success of the popular pump track at Newchapel Recreation Ground and complement a new track planned as part of the major improvement programme at Bradwell Dingle.

Together, the projects will significantly enhance opportunities for wheeled sports across Newcastle-under-Lyme and provide modern facilities in different parts of the borough.

Approximately £135,000 has already been secured through developer contributions, with further funding currently being sought to deliver the strongest possible scheme. Residents will be invited to comment on the proposals through a public consultation before the final design is agreed.

Cllr. Ben Simpson, Cabinet member for Waste, Recycling and Green Spaces, added:

Our parks belong to the people, and they should be places where families can spend time together, children can play, young people can challenge themselves and residents can enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of being outdoors.

 

Lyme Valley is one of our premier green spaces, attracting people from across the borough. We are proud of it, but pride must be backed up by action and investment.

 

This project is about breathing new life into an existing facility and making sure Lyme Valley continues to meet the needs of the next generation. That means protecting our green spaces while also making sure they are vibrant, welcoming and full of opportunities for local people.
