A week of action is taking place in Newcastle town centre from Monday, 17 August to Friday, 21 August as part of the council's Civic Pride campaign.

Council teams, partners and community organisations are joining forces this week for a week of action to improve Newcastle town centre, support local businesses and engage with residents.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s successful Civic Pride campaign comes to the town centre from Monday, 17 August to Friday, 21 August as part of its ongoing work to create cleaner, safer and more welcoming communities across the borough.

Working alongside Aspire Housing and Staffordshire Police, the council is co-ordinating litter picks, environmental improvements, community drop-ins, business visits and patrols under the #PrideInNUL banner.

The Civic Pride team will focus on the Dunkirk area on Tuesday, 18 August, with a community walkabout and litter pick starting at 10am.

On Wednesday, 19 August, residents can visit a drop-in session at the Guildhall between 10am and 2pm to speak to council teams and partners and get information and advice on a range of local issues.

Staffordshire Police will also hold a free bike-marking session from 10am on Wednesday at the Safe Space, opposite Caffè Nero in Ironmarket, helping residents protect their bikes and deter cycle theft.

A further community litter pick will take place at Stubbs Gate from 10am on Wednesday. Everyone is welcome to take part and equipment will be provided.

Cllr. Andrew Fisher, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services and Neighbourhoods, said:

Civic Pride is about rolling up our sleeves, getting out into our communities and working together to make a visible difference.

Throughout the week, our teams and partners will be tackling environmental issues, improving public spaces, supporting businesses and speaking directly to residents about the things that matter to them.

Individually, some of these actions might seem small, but together they make a real difference to how our town centre looks and feels.

We want residents and businesses to see their council out on the ground, listening to concerns and taking practical action. Our aim is simple: a cleaner, safer and more welcoming Newcastle-under-Lyme that everyone can take pride in.

We’re looking forward to working alongside our partners, businesses and local residents throughout the week.”

Teams will also carry out patrols across the town centre, visit local businesses and undertake work to clear and improve the path running alongside the brook from Morrisons.

The next Civic Pride event will take place in Audley on Wednesday, 26 August.
