Businesses targeted to help town centre tidiness
Newcastle’s town centre is looking tidier thanks to the Council working with businesses to keep streets clean.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council has reminded two businesses of their legal responsibilities to keep streets tidy within 100 metres of their premises.
McDonalds is focusing on discarded cartons, wrappers and cups close to its High Street store, while Morrison’s is targeting litter on the Goose Street footpath running alongside the supermarket.
Gordon Mole, Chief Executive of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, said:
We are committed to doing all we can to support businesses in our town centre and we want them to work with us for everyone’s benefit.
Tidier town centres are part and parcel of making Newcastle more welcoming for residents and visitors alike and we are determined that everyone should play their part in keeping our streets clean.
The Council cleans the town centre 364 days a year. Borough council officers are regularly out in the town centre and will speak to any business that isn’t pulling its weight.”
