Borough Council by-election result declared

The count took place straight after polling stations closed at 10pm.

The Labour & Co-operative Party has won a seat in a by-election for Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.

Counting took place after votes were cast on Thursday, 8 October for one seat in the Town ward, which was previously held by a Reform UK councillor.

The result means that of the 44 seats on the authority, Reform UK has 26 seats, Conservative 15 and Labour 3.

Winner Andrew Fox-Hewitt had a majority of 182 over his nearest opponent.

The votes cast were:

  • Conna Douglas Eynon, Conservative Party: 110
  • Andrew Fox-Hewitt, Labour & Co-operative Party: 431
  • Adam Griffiths, Reform UK: 249
  • Morgan Inwood, Liberal Democrats: 27
  • Mark Allan Jones, Green Party: 115

The turnout was 23.2 per cent.
