Five-year housing land supply assessment reports
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires local planning authorities to assess whether they have a supply of specific, deliverable sites which is sufficient to meet their identified housing requirement over a five-year period. Whether or not we can demonstrate a five-year supply of ‘deliverable’ housing sites is important as this needs to be considered when planning applications for new housing are determined.
These five-year housing land supply assessments must be updated on a yearly basis, unless we decide to update them more regularly.
A more regular update may be required where significant new evidence comes to light, for example:
- if new evidence is published regarding housing need
- if a large new housing site suddenly becomes available
The reports demonstrate the extent to which the annual supply of deliverable housing sites in the borough contribute to meeting housing needs over a five year period. The latest report covers the five year period from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2026.
