Five-year housing land supply assessment reports

The national planning policy framework (NPPF) requires local planning authorities to assess whether they have a supply of specific, deliverable sites which is sufficient to meet their identified housing requirement over a five-year period. Whether or not we can demonstrate a five-year supply of ‘deliverable’ housing sites is important as this needs to be considered when planning applications for new housing are determined.

Update frequency

These five-year housing land supply assessments must be updated on a yearly basis, unless we decide to update them more regularly.

A more regular update may be required where significant new evidence comes to light, for example:

  • if new evidence is published regarding housing need
  • if a large new housing site suddenly becomes available

Reports

The reports demonstrate the extent to which the annual supply of deliverable housing sites in the borough contribute to meeting housing needs over a five year period. The latest report covers the five year period from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2026.
