A net-zero Newcastle
What does carbon net-zero mean and why is it important?
Essentially, 'net zero' means that the amount of greenhouse gases (like carbon dioxide) that we add to the atmosphere is no more than what we consume. This means focusing on reducing our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions which cover everything from our transportation systems to the electricity we produce.
By reducing our emissions to net-zero we wouldn’t be contributing more than the natural amount greenhouse gases to the earth’s atmosphere which allows the planets systems and cycles to stay balanced which contributes to a stable climate (UN, 2030).
