How Your Bill is Calculated (Council Tax Charges and Bands 2020/21)

Council Tax is the way you help pay for local services the Council provides. Each council sets the level of Council Tax in its own area but the amount you pay depends on the value of your property.

Valuations for Council Tax purposes have been carried out by the Valuation Office Agency  which is a department of H.M. Revenues and Customs. Each dwelling has been valued and placed in one of eight bands depending on its value on the open market at 1 April 1991.

The bands and range of values are set out below:-

Council Tax Band range of values:-
A up to and including £40,000
B £40,001 - £52,000
C £52,001 - £68,000
D £68,001 - £88,000
E £88,001 - £120,000
F £120,001 - £160,000
G £160,001 - £320,000
H more than £320,000
