Carrying out works on a protected tree

A person who intends to carry out works to a protected tree must apply. You should seek the advice of an arboriculturist, before submitting your application. 

If the tree is protected by a tree preservation order 

The easiest way to apply is online through the planning portal:

Alternatively, you can download and send us a completed application form. 

If the tree is in a conservation area 

If you wish to carry our works to a tree in a conservation area, you must provide six week’s written notice. This must include a description of the proposed works and a sketch location plan and can be sent to landscape@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk.
