Newcastle-under-Lyme Town Deal projects

The objectives

The town investment plan (TIP) for Newcastle-under-Lyme has three objectives to help drive regeneration in the area:

  • Objective 1: to open up growth opportunities through enhanced physical and digital connectivity aligned with clean and sustainable economic development
  • Objective 2: to diversify and enhance the town centre experience by encouraging new uses to increase demand, footfall and boost the dwell time of residents and visitors
  • Objective 3: to channel investment into regenerating communities, ensuring these areas are sustainable places to live and provide residents with the infrastructure needed to improve their quality of life

The projects which  sit under these three objectives were agreed by the Town Deal board following a call for projects. Local people and organisations sent in over 25 project ideas.

Prioritisation

Our consultants, AECOM, devised a prioritisation method which the Board approved. This is available to download and print out.

All projects were scored against several factors such as cost, fit with local strategies, how easy they would be to deliver and whether they met the requirements of the MHCLG guidance. After scoring all the projects, three main objectives stood out for Newcastle.

Project development groups worked up the ideas in more detail ready for inclusion in the final town investment plan (TIP). The Board submitted the TIP to The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) in January 2021.
