Counting assistants
What are the duties?
Counting assistants are employed to verify and count the votes cast at polling stations, together with the postal votes received in the run-up to polling day.
Verification usually takes place after the polls close (10:00 p.m. on polling day), with the actual counting of votes either later that evening or the following morning.
The count is usually held in at Keele Ballroom.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to apply as a counting assistant, you must:
- be at least 16 years of age
- be entitled to work in the UK (in accordance with the provisions of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996). We will need to see a valid passport or your birth certificate and proof of your National Insurance number to support this.
