Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Election 2024

Voter ID

Any persons voting in person at this election will be required to show an official form of photographic identification (ID) before being issued with a ballot paper at the polling station. 

You may use the following forms of photo ID when voting at a polling station:

  • a passport issued by the UK, an of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country
  • a driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state
  • a biometric immigration document
  • an identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card)
  • Ministry of Defence From 90 (Defence Identity Card)
  • a Blue Badge
  • a national identity card issued by an EEA state
  • an older person's bus pass
  • a disabled person's bus pass
  • an Oyster 60+ card
  • a Freedom Pass
  • a Scottish National Entitlement Card issued in Scotland
  • a 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
  • a disabled person's Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
  • a Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • a Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person's SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • a War Disablement SmartPass or War Disabled SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • a 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • a Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • an Electoral Identity Card issued in Northern Ireland
  • a Voter Authority Certificate or a temporary Voter Authority Certificate

Original forms of photo ID will only be accepted at a polling station. Photocopies or pictures of your voter ID will not be accepted. This is to prevent fraudulent alteration of any photocopies or photos.

Expired photo ID will still be accepted, as long as the photograph is still a good likeness of you.

If you want to vote at a polling station and you do not have any of the accepted forms of photo ID, you will need to apply for a voter authority certificate. This is a free photographic identity document that can only be used for the purpose of voting. Applications can be made online, by post or in person. You will need to apply by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024 for this election. Your name on the electoral register will need to match what is on your identity document. If your name is incorrect on the electoral register, you will need to contact us to update. If your name is incorrect on your identity document, you will need to bring an additional document along with you that has your correct name on it. This will then be at the discretion of polling station staff as to whether this is accepted.
