Hackney carriage vehicle licences
This licence allows the use of a vehicle to carry the general public a publicly hired vehicle.
Hires can be pre-arranged through a licensed Newcastle-under-Lyme operator but within the borough they can also pick up fares without pre-booking if hailed or from local taxi ranks.
The vehicle can only be driven by a holder of a Newcastle-under-Lyme dual driver licence.

Hackney carriage fares
Any journeys using Newcastle-under-Lyme black hackney carriages that travel wholly from start to finish within the borough must be no more than the fares agreed by the local taxi trade with the local authority as seen below.
Any journey that is wholly or partially outside of the borough area must have a fare pre-agreed between the driver and the person taking the journey or must be measured using the vehicle's taxi meter for the number of people and time of day as per the local hackney carriage fares.
