Profile

Staffordshire County Council is the strategic local authority for the county of Staffordshire including the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The county council is one of the largest employers in Staffordshire, and with its 62 elected councillors provides democratic oversight of the services that Staffordshire’s residents depend upon in their everyday lives.

It is responsible for services such as:

  • regeneration, economic development and attracting inward investment
  • tourism
  • education, schools and skills
  • highways and infrastructure such as broadband
  • public health
  • adult and children’s social care
  • registration of births, deaths and weddings
  • libraries

Philip's role as Deputy Leader of Staffordshire County Council, and as Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills means that he is the county councillor responsible for the delivery of economic development and skills across Staffordshire.

The Town Deal will be a key driver of economic growth and regeneration in Newcastle as we start to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Staffordshire County Council has recently co-located some if its services in the town such as registrars and the library with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, the Police and Aspire Housing in the new Castle House civic hub.

By doing so it can further enhance its services for the community. It also demonstrates that the county council is fully invested in Newcastle-under-Lyme and will continue to support the residents of the borough who depend upon the services that it provides.

Philip lives in Rolleston-on-Dove in East Staffordshire. He is a local businessman as well as county councillor and was first elected to the county council in 2017 to serve the Dove division.

However, his role as an elected member of the county council, as well as Deputy Leader, and Cabinet member means that he serves all the people of Staffordshire so that we can strengthen our communities to make this an even better place to live, to work, and to visit.
