Voices Unheard
Hidden Stories of Protest and Perseverance

Voices Unheard shares powerful stories of people who struggled to be heard.   The exhibition looks at disability, mental health, LGBTQ+ rights, addiction, women’s rights, and working‑class life.  It highlights protest, resilience, and the fight for fairness.

When the museum opened in 1943, displays focused on wealthy families, town leaders, and major events.  There was less emphasis on everyday voices.  But those stories were there—often hidden in our collections, woven into everyday objects, photos, and archives.

Today, we collect differently. We look for personal stories and real experiences—stories that show daily life, quiet strength, and the challenges people faced.

Voices Unheard invites you to find these hidden histories and the people behind them
